A chip or crack in your windshield doesn’t always mean a full replacement — and in many cases, a fast professional repair is all it takes to restore the glass and stop the damage from spreading. Excellent Auto Glass provides windshield chip and crack repair throughout Jacksonville and the surrounding Northeast Florida area, with mobile service available so we can come to you.
If you have comprehensive auto insurance, there’s a good chance your repair costs you nothing at all. Florida law requires insurers to cover windshield repair with no deductible — and we handle the claim on your behalf.
Not all windshield damage requires a full replacement, and getting a repair when it’s a viable option saves you time, money, and the inconvenience of a longer service appointment. In general, repair is possible when:
Repair is typically not possible — and replacement becomes necessary — when the damage is too large, too deep, or positioned in a way that would leave a visual distortion in a critical sightline even after repair.
When you’re not sure, call us. We’d rather talk you through it and recommend repair when it’s safe than push you toward a replacement you don’t need. Our technicians will assess the damage honestly and tell you exactly what your options are.
We follow a proven, industry-standard process to ensure your windshield is installed correctly and safely.
We assess the size, depth, location, and type of the damage to confirm that repair is the right and safe option for your vehicle. If it’s not, we’ll tell you — and explain why.
The damaged area is carefully cleaned to remove any debris, moisture, or contaminants from the chip or crack. This step is critical — any foreign material left inside the damage will compromise the repair.
A specialized optical resin is injected into the chip or crack under controlled pressure, filling the void and displacing any remaining air. The resin is matched to the optical properties of the glass to minimize visibility of the repair
Once cured, the repair area is polished smooth and we do a final visual inspection to confirm clarity and adhesion. In most cases the damage will be significantly less visible — and the glass will be structurally sound again.
One of the most common mistakes Jacksonville drivers make is treating a small chip as a low-priority problem. It’s easy to do — a chip the size of a quarter seems minor, especially if it’s not in your direct line of sight. But a few factors specific to this area make quick action more important than most people realize.
Heat and UV exposure. Northeast Florida summers are intense. The combination of direct sun, high temperatures, and UV exposure causes the glass to expand and contract throughout the day. A chip that’s been left alone acts as a stress point during that thermal cycling, and cracks can propagate quickly — sometimes overnight after a particularly hot day.
Highway driving. Jacksonville’s major corridors — I-95, I-10, I-295, and the First Coast Expressway — involve sustained high speeds where wind pressure and vibration continuously stress the glass. That micro-movement works against any existing chip, especially at highway speeds.
Coastal humidity. Moisture that works its way into an unsealed chip changes how the glass responds to temperature swings. Once water is inside the damage, the repair window narrows significantly — and what could have been a $0 insurance repair can turn into a full replacement.
The bottom line: a chip repaired today is almost always cheaper, faster, and less disruptive than a replacement next week.

Florida is one of very few states in the country with a zero-deductible windshield law. Under Florida Statute 627.7288, comprehensive auto insurance policies are required to cover windshield repair — and windshield replacement — with no deductible charged to the policyholder.
For windshield repair specifically, that means:

The goal of a professional repair is to restore structural integrity and minimize the appearance of the damage — not to make the glass look like new. In most cases the repair will be significantly less noticeable, but some degree of visibility may remain depending on the size and type of damage. We’ll give you a realistic expectation before we start.
Yes — if you carry comprehensive coverage, Florida law requires your insurer to cover windshield repair with no deductible. We verify coverage before we begin and handle the claim filing directly with your carrier.
Glass claims in Florida are generally non-fault claims and do not count as at-fault accidents. In most cases, filing a windshield repair claim will not affect your premium. That said, individual policies vary — if you’re uncertain, you can ask your insurer, though most Jacksonville drivers find it has no impact.
The sooner you act, the better. Chips that have been exposed to heat, moisture, or highway vibration for extended periods are harder to repair successfully. Call us and describe the damage — we can give you a preliminary read and schedule an inspection to confirm.
We can repair both chips and certain types of cracks, depending on their length and location. Cracks shorter than a few inches that haven’t reached the glass edge are often repairable. Longer or edge-reaching cracks typically require replacement.
Same-day appointments are available in many cases. Call us or submit a quote request and we’ll check availability for your area.
